The official currency of Malaysia is the Ringgit (RM or MYR), and while it's good to have ample Ringgit before coming into the country, it's also very easy to find money changers in Penang itself. Bank notes are available in RM1, RM5, RM10, RM20, RM50 and RM100 denominations.
