Changkat Bukit Bintang (20 kilometres)

Introduction

There are two scenes to every city. In the daytime, Changkat is a quiet, charming tree-lined street with backpacker hostels, restaurants and bars. At night, it comes to life with jazz bars, comedy clubs and trendy pubs. Located in the heart of Bukit Bintang, Changkat is just a brief walk away from Jalan Alor. Tourists and locals flock to Changkat to experience the vibrant night scene, which is said to resemble London’s Piccadilly or New York City’s Times Square. The energy pulsating through the streets is infectious as the Changkat entertainment scene kicks into full swing.

History

Changkat used to be a simple residential area, just a block away from the former Bukit Bintang Girls’ School in Bukit Bintang. Although most of the pre-war colonial buildings have been replaced with modern clubs, bars, eateries and hostels, you can still notice dual-storey terrace homes and shophouses in their original form.

Fans of Thai food will enjoy Bann 26, which isn’t hard to locate due to its bright yellow facade. It doubles as a bar and restaurant, dishing out delicious Thai cuisine and equally good alcoholic beverages. The vibes are not as rowdy as most places in Changkat, so it’s perfect for couples seeking a romantic, quiet evening together.

After dinner, the real entertainment begins. You can’t visit Changkat at night and not check out one of the many bars along the street. There’s nothing more exciting than speakeasy bars, and PS150 is a labyrinth speakeasy that offers amazing cocktails and an unforgettable experience. To arrive at the bar, you’ll have to journey through wooden doors, dark rooms and narrow hallways. The journey of discovering the speakeasy is always a fun experience for both locals and tourists.

Kick back at Sutraa Bar, complete with live music, good drinks, billiard and more. This bar is especially ideal for those looking for a relaxing night out with friends. Want to unwind with a live jazz performance? Check out No Black Tie, one of Kuala Lumpur’s leading jazz bars located on Jalan Mesui. The jazz bar has housed a great number of local musicians and singers over the years.

Timing
Most restaurants along Changkat only open afternoon, but bars usually stay open until 2 am or 3:00 am.
