There are two scenes to every city. In the daytime, Changkat is a quiet, charming tree-lined street with backpacker hostels, restaurants and bars. At night, it comes to life with jazz bars, comedy clubs and trendy pubs. Located in the heart of Bukit Bintang, Changkat is just a brief walk away from Jalan Alor. Tourists and locals flock to Changkat to experience the vibrant night scene, which is said to resemble London’s Piccadilly or New York City’s Times Square. The energy pulsating through the streets is infectious as the Changkat entertainment scene kicks into full swing.
Changkat used to be a simple residential area, just a block away from the former Bukit Bintang Girls’ School in Bukit Bintang
. Although most of the pre-war colonial buildings have been replaced with modern clubs, bars, eateries and hostels, you can still notice dual-storey terrace homes and shophouses in their original form.
